WEEKS TO GO....... 4 !!! PDF Print E-mail
Continuing the countdown and we're just 4 weeks away from the off. Plenty of work is still to be done, and we cannot give up our training programmes just yet.

Behind the scenes, all systems are go in terms of booking accommodation. With the route now broken down into the various stages, we are able to get the maps out and pin point exactly where we are going to be and when! Although the first Highland March saw us walk TO Falkirk 5 years ago, we are not walking from the same venue as we finished at on that occasion. Falkirk FC have a new home away from Brockville, giving the option of avoiding Stirling altogether and take an unfarmiliar route over the Ochills and into Gleneagles.

The General and Major Jnr have also been working hard on a fundraiser - due to take place at the beginning of next Month - from which the walkers aim to generate the biggest final total the Highland March has seen to date. With 'Virgin Mary' assisting along the way, this year is already getting very very exciting as the build up continues...

It certainly doesnt seem like a year since the walkers donned their boots and took to the challeneges that were the Great Glen Way and West Highland Way. Only 1 drop out from a 7-strong cast saw them cover over 165 miles in 7 days - the longest distance covered during any Highland March outwith the Support Driver!
Falkirk to Inverness has thrown up the shortest route available out of all the options available at just 145 miles. Gretna being the furthest at 250(ish). Yet HM6 is being prepared for like all those that went before it, with great lengths of time and lots of energy being spent to make it the most successful.

For the first time ever, the Highland March is providing a fundraising evening outwith the Walk itself to raise awareness and support for 2 worthy causes in the Highlands and Islands. Raigmore Childrens Hospital and Team ICT. A night of pampering on the cards for the Ladies, with a raffle and a buffet organised, not to mention the potential for a rather painful experience for Support Driver, CaleyD!!!

We are fortunate enough this year to re-visit some of the Bunkhouses of the past, not to mentiion experience life as indians by staying in the Tepees around Kenmore. With the route being as direct as it is, we also have the posibility of walking the Pass of Glen Tromie once again, weather depending. All in all, a lot to look forward to! Onwards and Upwards...
