HM4_165"You've Got Egg On Your Shirt"

Here we go again with another fun packed episode in the life of a 'long distance' Highland Marcher.

The SPL fixture list once again gave the route planners a major headache because of the 'split' in mid April. A further pain for the planners came about however because the season ended a week earlier than normal to enable players to be released for the World Cup.

To accommodate that, the SPL computer penciled in a mid-week fixture in the final week of the season. This meant that, if the HM was to continue with its original format, we would have to walk from Wednesday to Saturday (or Sunday depending on a top six finish - complicated innit?). ICT didn't really help matters either as their quest for a top six position faltered at the last hurdle - had they secured 6th, we'd have had an extra day to make the distance. But not to worry, you do what you've got to do and get on with it!

HM3_3233500 Foot Climb - For A Beer!!!

What an absolute piggin' nightmare it was trying to get to this event in the first place.

The SPL gave us all a headache - I kept telling people "I'm doing a sponsored walk in May but I don't know where the feck I'm going!!". Organising time off work and then travel arrangements!! aaargh, my head hurts.

The secret of where and when we're going was all revealed in mid-April after the SPL teams had completed 33 games - deep joy - these fixtures threw up a trip to Dundee on the penultimate day so, therefore, a 'short' walk for us in HMIII.

My time off work was secured about a week before the off and at a time when all the cheapo fares to Glesga or Embra had all but disappeared. Perfect!!!

HM2_040"Gringo, Show Us Your Bum"

Last year is was from Inverness to Falkirk. This year the fixture list throws up Clyde (away) and St Johnstone (home) so this years stroll is about 150 miles from Broadwood Stadium, Cumbernauld to Caledonian Stadium, Inverness.

Those taking part this season are Interthenet (Steve Taylor), Caley Canary (Stu MacFarlane), Gringo Jnr (Rob Wilson), Mrs Gringo (Kath Wilson) and myself, Gringo, (Dave Wilson).

HM1_135Deciding to walk 160 miles in a week to watch a football match is something only an Inter' Nutter could be capable of. Interthenet, being just that, wanted to do nothing more to celebrate his 50th birthday than walk to Falkirk to watch his beloved Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

When the idea first came to him after the third (or was it the fourth?) Newcastle Brown at Hogmanay in 2002, ITN quickly started raising interest amongst other 'nutters, and reckoned it may raise the profile of Inverness CT if it was also to be a charity event.

He reckoned it would be good if they could walk from the penultimate fixture to the last game of the season (loads of time to recover over the summer, see& ). The fixture list threw up the challenge of Inverness to Falkirk - some 160 miles down the road. There are many Internutters in Inverness, and some managed to build up the strength to join ITN on this soon to become, 'annual outing'.
